December 21, 2012

Dear Fam,
  • The Mayans were wrong...so far!
  • The funerals for the Newtown children and teachers has been agonizing. In the midst of the sorrow, I saw this moving video of 6-year-old shooting victim Ana Marquez-Green singing, "Come Thou Almighty King" accompanied by her brother, Isaiah. Priceless!
  • Sometimes we forget the power of the gospel--this brief testimony will help you remember.
  • John Piper has written a poem that reflects on last week's sermon text--Herod's killing of the children in Bethlehem. The poem ponders the potential cost the innkeeper paid for housing the son of God.
  • Today is Dean Smith's 52nd birthday. Last weekend, one of our church family's took Dean along on a hayride to see neighborhood Christmas lights. It appears he had a good time!

  • Today is the shortest day of the year and Christmas is just four days away. Coincidence? No, that's why Christmas is on the calendar when it is. It's because the ancients were celebrating the coming of the light into the world and the conviction that with Christ's birth, the darkness would steadily recede.
  • Worship tomorrow and Sunday will be on Matthew 3:13-4:11 on Jesus' temptation and baptism. Christmas Eve worship will be at 3:00, 5:00 & 7:00. Don't come alone--bring a neighbor or friend (or even an enemy!) "For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior which is Christ the Lord."
Love,
